3D & 4D Ultrasound Packages

For most women, one of the most eagerly anticipated moments during pregnancy is when you finally get to see the baby during an ultrasound. Ultrasounds also serve a medically necessary purpose during pregnancy, such as confirming the pregnancy, checking the baby’s age and growth, confirming that the fetus has a healthy heartbeat, and checking for signs of birth defects and overall development, as well as checking for multiples, like twins or triplets.

For most moms, though, the ultrasound is all about being able to see the baby. Depending on the type of ultrasound, you are able to see the baby in great detail. That’s especially true with our 3D and 4D ultrasounds.

Difference and Advantages Between 2D and 3D/4D Ultrasounds

There is a difference in the different types of ultrasounds that a mom-to-be can have performed during pregnancy. The ultrasounds are similar in the respect that each one uses sounds waves to create a picture. The traditional ultrasound, a 2D ultrasound, is a two-dimensional image. These scans produce flat-looking images that give doctors and parents the chance to see the internal organs and check for heart defects, issues with kidneys or other possible internal issues.

In the recent past, 3D ultrasounds and 4D ultrasounds have become available. These ultrasound methods are not standard for prenatal testing. For this reason, usually, these types of ultrasounds, 3D and 4D, are often not covered by insurance unless deemed medically necessary.

With 3D images, the picture shows a three-dimensional image of the baby. It can be helpful when looking for issues like a cleft lip. 4D Ultrasounds bring the baby to life on the screen and is like watching a movie. With 3D and 4D ultrasounds, you can see the baby’s actual face and facial details. These scans also show what the baby is doing in the womb, like thumb-sucking, sleeping and even laughing.

Many parents prefer a 3D or 4D ultrasound because the picture looks the way people perceive a baby to look. While the 2D image is fantastic for looking at the internal organs on a baby, parents have a difficult time determining what is what on the image and like to see the 3D or 4D picture of their child because it looks more like an actual baby. In addition to the visual aspect, the images also allow parents to have the peace of mind that their child is growing healthy and free of birth defects that are harder to see during a 2D ultrasound.
